Natural blue amber from the Dominican Republic is like no other amber in the world. The color is completely natural to the stone, unlike some stones on the market which have a blue backing on them to give them a similar appearance. These pieces are genuine blue amber and are completely natural but for being polished into freeforms. Dominican Blue Amber is one of the rarest minerals derived from an extinct species of broad-leaved tropical trees known as Hymenaea protera. The blue is best seen under natural sunlight while holding the piece at an angle so that the piece reflects the sunlight. The color is not solid, and most pieces will appear to be a beautiful gold green color, but catch the light just right and highlights of blue appear, which makes it quite difficult to photograph their true colors. Many pieces have underlying colors of red, green and even purple. Blue amber, alone among all ambers, has the ability to fluoresce under a black light where it glows a vibrant blue white. While there are theories to why this amber appears blue, it is still not fully understood.

The energy of this amber is completely different from the Mexican or Baltic amber. All are wonderful healers but that being said, blue amber from the Dominican Republic is the most powerful blue amber of all. This amazing piece of amber is the largest of the batch.  It has gorgeous tones of red and deep amber.  Catching the blue under the lights was challenging and I wound up taking over 30 pictures of this piece!  The red tones give it a very strong physical energy.
