The pocket that this crystal was mined from was close to the surface of the earth and the highly etched surface was created by lightning striking the ground around the crystal. The energy of the lightning excited the molecules of the quartz causing the crystal to grow with these etched patterns. Lightning quartz has a very intense energy. Picking it up you can feel it vibrating in your hand up through your arm and too much and you can easily get a headache.
