The more common trade name of Prasiolite is derived from the Greek prason meaning leek (as in the vegetable), and “Lithos” meaning stone. Prasiolite is usually creating by heating low grade amethyst which will sometimes turn it green for setting in jewelry. However this green amethyst stalactite is natural in color. Some areas have been polished to bring out the colors and formations of the agate it sits on. A small area of the druzy crystals has also been polished creating a window to the activity behind the glittering points. Crystals cover one side in varying hues of green while the other side is coated with a white mineral . If you look closely at the crystals you can see puffy green inclusions that look like moss.
