There are several small topaz crystals nestled on this matrix of quartz and magnesite. Magnesite is a cousin of calcite forming in much the same manner, with magnesium instead of calcium as its main element. Purple topaz is one of the rarest colors of the topaz family. In fact until our trip to Costa Mesa, we hadn't seen any specimens for sale that were even remotely affordable for us (or most of our customers!). You can imagine how delighted we were to find a small batch these crystals, the fact that they are on a quartz matrix makes them slightly more affordable. Purple topaz ranges from a pink-purple to a violet-purple in color. The crystals we picked up are in the pink range of purple, with sweet energy.
