Craggy Small Chinese Tektite (M11157)SOLD!Black tektites are created during
meteoric impacts and are the combination of extraterrestrial and terrestrial
materials. The word tektite is from the Greek tektos meaning molten and these
stones have been revered for centuries as sacred. The heat of the meteors
causes the minerals to liquefy and this mixture is often thrown into the air.
As the minerals solidify and drop back to the Earth, they form in the shapes
teardrops, dumbbells or rounded buttons with etchings and small pockets.
Tektites have a high content of silicon dioxide yet appear completely black,
and are very light weight.
The tektite measures 1.5" x 0.7" x 0.6" and weighs 0.5 oz. |
