This means that the color changes when exposed to sunlight, yet returns to a different color state when place in the dark. The stone can perform this color change indefinitely. This purple Hackmanite from Afghanistan may turn a creamy white color when placed in the dark for extended periods. Interestingly, Hackmanite from Canada or Greenland change from purple in the dark to creamy white in the light. Kunzite and Tugtupite also display this unusual color changing property.
