Kyanite is a beautiful mineral found most commonly found in vivid hues of blue with a silvery shimmer to the surface. It is commonly mined in Brazil, Netherlands and India, each with its own unique properties. Kyanite has an unusual hardness characteristic; lengthwise the hardness ranges from 4-5 but across the blade the hardness increases to 6-7 making it difficult to cut and polish. However the Kyanite from India has a hardness of 6-7 in both directions making it perfect to polish into wands or freeforms like this one. The shimmering hues of midnight blue have been polished into a tongue shaped freeform. It could make a stunning pendant when wire wrapped.
