The Apache women's tears of grief turned into these dark stones as they dropped on the sand. Apache Tears are actually a form of volcanic glass and are in the obsidian family. They are usually very dark brown to black and polished to a glassy finish. These apache tears are completely unpolished, pockmarked with some quartz or matrix, but they are generally smooth to the touch. Hold them up to the light and you’ll see they are deep translucent brown. They have a profound grounding energy, much deeper than black obsidian, yet they don't bog you down.
