It has been several years since we have been able to find beta quartz. Technically what we see termed as beta quartz is actually a pseudomorph of quartz after beta quartz. True beta quartz is only found at temperatures above 573ºC (over 1000ºF). Beta quartz has a different bonding structure that is less dense and has a lower specific gravity. Structurally the difference is so slight that beta quartz can easily make the transition to common quartz (also known as alpha quartz). During this transition, alpha quartz aligns in the same patterns as beta quartz. Are you still with me? I really am a science geek at heart!This spirit has a fascinating dynamic as Morion quartz has a very grounding and protective energy. But the beta formation allows you to access your higher self and to connect with the messages contained there. There are also beautiful etchings all over the surface with some very detailed formations. It is quite beautiful in form and energy.
A sister to smokey quartz, Morion quartz is very rare black quartz and is formed through natural radiation caused by near by uranium deposits. Morion itself is not radioactive and is safe to carry. True morion quartz is rare and frequently black quartz is recreated by irradiating quartz in commercial settings. While similar physical results occur, the crystals have a much different feel. Natural morion quartz retains some translucence when held up to the light, while altered quartz does not. Protect their deep color from sun exposure as they will fade black to gray under prolonged exposure. "Morions" were a type of helmet used around the time of the Conquistadors, which speaks to the stone's protective and shielding qualities. Their energy assists you in shadow work, aid you to face the dark aspects of self and to dissipate self-imposed obstacles. They reconnect you to yourself, assisting you to be true in thought and actions. They are very calming when you feel overwhelmed and are comforting in times of grief. They can also dispel nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath due to anxiety attacks.
